Abstract
introduction and objective of the study: The feotus derives all the necessary components from the mother, which is why in pregnant women a balanced diet should provide the right amount of energy, and also contain essential nutrients in adequate and correct amounts and proportions. The aim of this study is to present the proper nutrition of pregnant women. brief description of state of knowledge: In the first trimester of pregnancy, energy demand is comparable with the period before pregnancy, on condition that a woman was not underweight before the pregnancy period. Under current Polish nutrition standards, the energy value of the nutritional ration for pregnant women in the second trimester of pregnancy should be increased by 360kcal/daily, while in the third trimester by 475kcal/daily. The supply of protein in the diet of pregnant women should be increased by 33%. However, fat intake during the second trimester should increase by an additional 8–14g/daily, and in the third trimester by 11–18g/daily. An important place in the nourishment of pregnant women is occupied by polyunsaturated fatty acids of the omega-3 group (docosahexaenoic acid-DHA, EPA eicosapentaenoic acid), which should cover at least 4.5% of the energy demand. Carbohydrates should cover from 55–60% of the energy value of the daily nutritional ration of pregnant women. summary: During pregnancy, the demand for energy, protein, fat, lots of vitamins and minerals is increased, which is why it is very important that the diet of pregnant women is varied. By the proper selection of food products, it is easier to avoid nutritional deficiencies to which pregnant women are frequently exposed. The participation of proper quantity and quality of liquids in nutritional ration of pregnant women is also important.
