Abstract
The article highlights the main provisions of laws that protect the rights of national minorities, and the practice of their application. The protection of national minorities and of the rights and freedoms of persons belonging to those minorities forms an integral part of the international protection of human rights, and as such falls within the scope of international co-operation. Persons belonging to national minorities may exercise the rights and enjoy the freedoms flowing from the principles enshrined in the national and international acts individually as well as in community with others. This article was prepared by the Institute for Democracy (Moldova). This article is funded by the European Union (European Union’s Confidence Building Measures Programme – СВМ IV).
