On the meaning of nicknames and titles in ancient writing sources and their interchangeability

Abstract
Historical and etymological analysis shows that the traditions of name formation of ancient Turks were based on ancient beliefs, religion, moral and economic life of the people, their surrounding natural environment, including flora and fauna. Mahmud Kashkari, a prominent representative of scientific philological thought of the 11th century explains the personal names of the Karakhanid period in his famous work “Divani-Lughati-Turk”, revealing their lexico-semantic, genetic and structural features, and conveying the necessary valuable information. This work contains the names of people, titles and nicknames, which reflected the social character of the XI century, a special place is dedicated to nicknames. This fact indicates the ancient origin of these words.
