Journal Title: Psychological journal - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 5

Abstract

The article deals with the actual approaches to the provision of psychological aid to employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, who participated in the antiterrorist operation (ATO), contains descriptive characteristics of main types of psychological aid. It is noted that psychological aid is a kind of helping provided by a qualified psychologist to a person (group of people) to optimize psychophysiological states, mental processes, behavior, communication, activities, individual and social implementation. Providing psychological aid to ATO participants is an extremely relevant question, which importance is only increasing over time. This is confirmed by official authorities and institutions, emphasizing the predominance of psychological problems directly related to the state of mental health, the need for psychological rehabilitation, difficulties of social rehabilitation (especially with regard to establishing relationships) and complete return to peaceful life in society. Among the main types of psychological aid are: 1) psychological counseling, 2) psychoprophylaxis, 3) psychological correction, 4) psychotherapy, 5) psychorehabilitation, 6) emergency psychological aid. Psychological counseling is defined as the field of practical professional activity of a psychologist, which is related to helping healthy people (who needed that) in the form of recommendations for solving life problems. Psychoprophylaxis is a kind of psychological help aimed at preserving, improving and strengthening mental health, as well as on the prevention of mental illness and its adverse effects. According to the classification of the World Health Organization, it distinguished primary, secondary and tertiary psychoprophylaxis. Psychological correction (psychocorrection) is considered as a specially organized system of psychological influences, aimed at changing/correcting certain personality and behavioral features (properties, processes, states, qualities etc.). Psychotherapy occupies a special place among the varieties of professional psychological aid and is aimed at rendering assistance through personality’s profound changes through the implementation of progressive changes in self and world perception, which creates conditions for full realization. Rehabilitation is a system of state, social, medical, professional, pedagogical, psychological and other measures aimed at preventing the growth of pathological processes that lead to temporary or permanent disability, at the effective and early return of patients and persons with disabilities in the society and to the socio-useful work. Emergency psychological aid refers to a system of short-term measures aimed at regulating the actual psychological, psychophysiological state and negative experiences of a person (group of people) as a result of traumatic events using professional methods that meet the requirements of the situation. It is noted that types of psychological aid have both common features and differences characteristics, while they combine the general goal – the assistance and support of the individual in the process of its functioning and development, due to the formation of the ability to balance their own psycho-emotional state, to independently solve life’s problems, adequately and effectively act in any situation in order to achieve the fullest possible realization in life.
