Organic Bee-keeping in Turkey

Abstract

According to FAO database 5.602.670 of 77.619.201 bee colony and 81.115 of 1.540.242 tons honey are produced in Turkey. Turkey is in peak related with bee colony and honey production. According to same data Turkey is the second after China for honey production and the third after India and China for bee colony. In Turkey there are about 200.000 farms where bee raises. Organic beekeeping is to raise bee with none of artificial feeding and chemical usage in natural places or organic farm fields from production to consumption for all production process. In Turkey there were started organic beekeeping under “Organic Agriculture Law” which is published in Gazette dated 1 December 2004 and numbered 25659 and “Regulation of Principals and Applications of Organic Agriculture” which is published in Gazette dated 18 August 2010 and numbered 27676. According to Organic Agriculture Information System of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock 754 farmer raise organic beekeeping and yield 221 tons of honey in the country. In this review organic beekeeping has examined in general meaning.
