Organizational component of the US higher education system

Abstract

The article examines some aspects of the organizational component of the US higher education system. These are public or private universities, colleges of liberal arts, public or non-profit colleges. Statistics are provided on the ranking of universities around the world. Colleges and universities in the United States are considered in terms of goals: some may focus on professional, business, engineering or technical curricula or on curricula in the humanities. Described are the degrees received by graduates from US higher education institutions (associate degree, bachelor’s degree in humanities and bachelor of natural sciences, master’s degree, doctoral degree). Some types of institutions that provide diplomas in the United States are identified. The criteria for assessment by universities and colleges of accreditation departments are described. The classification of universities is given, depending on the degree of predominance of degrees.
