OXIDATIVE REACTION OF SUCROSE WITH POTASSIUM PERMANGANATE IN AQUEOUS ACEDIC MEDIUM – A KINETIC AND MECHANISTIC APPROACH
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Scientific Research - Year 2017, Vol 8, Issue 1
Abstract
Oxidative reaction of sucrose by potassium permanganate in aqueous acidic medium has been investigated spectrophotometrically. Systronic visible Spectrophotometer -105 was used for data collection.. The determination of thermodynamic parameters has been determined with varying the temperature from 30°C - 50°C and keeping constant other ingradients. First order rate of reaction enhanced with increasing the temperature. The enthalpy of activation (∆H), free energy of activation (∆G) were recorded with positive value, while entropy of activation (∆S) with highly negative value indicates the formation of solvated molecular complex in rate determining step. Rate law of the oxidation reaction and mechanism were suggested for current research work.
