Paleograficzna notacja rytmiczna śpiewu gregoriańskiego z Nonantoli

Journal Title: Musica Ecclesiastica - Year 2016, Vol 11, Issue

Abstract

Notation of Nonantola, next to the St. Gallen, Laon and Chartres is one of paleographic rhythmic notation of gregorian chant. It was used in medieval scriptorium in Verona. Its main characteristic is inclined scripture with a diagonal line of elevation and vertical line of deposition. Each neumatic sign is connected with a vocal of syllables to which it belongs. Virga has the approximative ability to adapt to the melody line in syllabic contexts. It amazes multiplicity of certain forms of paleographic: 9 ways to express a neuma with one sound (including 4 types of virga: acuta, inferior, curva and gravis), pes (3 types), clivis (8 types), torculus (10 types), porrectus (5 types ), scandicus (5 types), salicus (2 types), climacus (three and four-sounds - 8 types). Notation distinguished qualities of liquid, illiquid and partly liquid and is able to show some cases of neumatic separation and articulation. The repertoire, which doptrwał to our times is fragmentary. Neumatic signs have been systematized and explained in modern times by Ave Moderini and, above all, Nino Albarosa.
