Journal Title: Наука і освіта - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 11
Abstract
The article deals with the concept of passionarity, which has been included into humanities and social sciences by the historian and ethnologist L. N. Gumilyov. The purpose of the article is to clarify the psychological components of passionarity phenomenon. The term “passionarity” is widely spread in humanities and journalism that is why there is the necessity of studying and describing this phenomenon from the psychological point of view. The first attempts of this description have already been performed by some psychologists. According to some of them, passionate people are characterized by sanguine or choleric temperament, expressed emotions and at the same time strong-willed selfregulation, organizational skills and creativity. Besides, some attempts to compare the phenomena of passionarity and search activity have been made. The author of the theory of search activity V. Rotenberg considered these phenomena to be very similar. At the same time there are significant differences between them. Search activity is peculiar to humans and animals, and passionarity is inherent only to humans because it is connected with important ideas and values. Passionarity involves readiness for sacrifices and is based on altruism. Search activity is the satisfaction of individual’s own needs and it is not altruistic. Search activity does not involve self-sacrifice and risks. An attempt to replace the term “passionarity” by the term “vigorousness” has been made by some scientists, which, in our opinion, is the substitution of the aim of psychological study of passionarity. The main method of research used in the article is logical and philosophical review and analysis of existing definitions of passionarity, search for similar phenomena and their comparison. As a result of our analysis, we conclude that passionarity is the system of psychological qualities of a person, which includes goal setting, non-adaptive behavior, in particular aiming for self-actualization, creativity, personal influence, and altruism. We consider the further researches of passionarity to involve studying the creative sphere of passionate individuals, their influence on the society, phenomena of society passionarity.
