Patient safety in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Journal Title: Inżynier i Fizyk Medyczny - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 1

Abstract

T he staff of radiology and diagnostic imaging institutes presents the particular group among employees of public healthcare. On the one hand, they are exposed to influence of physical factors (radiation ionizing, magnetic field), on the other hand must assure proper safety for patients during diagnostic procedure. Magnetic field adheres to a category of 2B of carcinogenic agents. According to recognized data, the exposure to magnetic field to a value of 4T does not create negative lesions in organism (if correctly done). However, it is not possible to state certainly that it is entirely safe. There is a group of patients to which, even minimal induction of field is very dangerous.
