PECULIARITIES OF USING «PRE-PERSPECTIVE» FEATURES OF SPACE IN THE WORKS OF V.A. GEGAMYAN (1925–2000)

Abstract
The article is dedicated to the painter Valeriy Arutyunovich Gegamyan (1925–2000), whose creative work is recognized today as an outstanding phenomenon in the art of Odessa in the second half of the 20th century. The peculiarities of the visualization of space in the works of this artist are investigated in the aspect of composition problems, the correlation of categories of depth and flatness – this is due to the specifics of contemporary fine arts and features of V. A. Gegamyan’s artistic language. For the spatial thinking of V. A. Gegamyan the use of individual elements of three-dimensional space is as important as the use of spatial systems – the system of orthogonal projections, the systems of single-point and inverted perspectives. In this article we mainly analyze VA. Gegamyan’s interpretation of the so-called «pre-perspective» features of spatiality – occulting, foreshortening and conditional modelling, which are the oldest in the arsenal of means of artistic expression. These simple and traditionally unsightly signs of spatial heterogeneity in the works of the painter of the late 20th century form a full range of meaningful content.
