Perception of nurses against venous extravasism in neonatal unit
Journal Title: Revista Brasileira de Educação e Saúde - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 1
Abstract
Intravenous extravasation can be defined as the spilling of medications from the blood vessel where they are being infused into the surrounding tissues. The reactions and severity of the process depend on the extravasated drug, the amount, the site, the concentration and the conditions of the patient. This is a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach. 10 nurses participated in the study, all of them female, with a minimum age of 37 and a maximum of 53 years. The nurses interviewed in this study stated that they knew the meaning of intravenous extravasation and recognized the classic symptoms of this event, not showing difficulties in explaining what they understood about the subject. Conclusion: Care of newborns should be performed in order to restore their state of health in the shortest possible time, so that the hospital stays free of complications and is free of iatrogenic effects.
