Perioperative paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia: anaesthetic concerns

Journal Title: JOURNAL OF MEDICAL COLLEGE CHANDIGARH - Year 2015, Vol 5, Issue 2

Abstract

We report a case of an ASA I, 24 year old male who developed paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) in the early postoperative period, reasons of which are not yet understood as multiple causes were ruled out immediately. Patient was shifted to the ICU within half an hour and treated successfully with single dose of Adenosine 6 mg intravenous with a 20 ml saline push. Patient was transferred on the same day to the ward, after 10 hours of monitoring vitals, with no recurrence of the episode.
