PERIPHERAL MORPHOLOGICAL MEANS EXPRESSING THE CATEGORY OF PLURALITY IN ENGLISH AND RUSSIAN (comparative aspect)

Abstract
This article deals with the peculiarities of morphological means expressing the category of plurality in English and Russian, which form the periphery of the functional-semantic field of quantativeness. Unlike Russian words, English adjectives, participles, pronouns, verbs and ordinal numerals are devoid of grammatical agreement in number. Agreement in number in English is of semantic nature. The Russian language is characterized by a variety of word-building means expressing verbal plurality, whereas the English language is limited in them due to its analytical nature. Grammatical forms of number (singular and plural) indicate in English verbs only the number of actors. In Russian verbs such grammatical forms indicate the number of actors and can express the idea of oneness or multiplicity of actions.
