Perspectives of the History and the Philosophy of Science in the Context of Aydın Sayılı and Nusret Hızır -Institutionalization and Theorization in Ankara-
Journal Title: Ankara Üniversitesi Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2016, Vol 56, Issue 2
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to invastigate the relationships between the history of science and the philosophy of science within the framework of multi-disciplinary approaches to scientific studies in the context of the institutionalization process in Ankara. Aydın Sayılı and Nusret Hızır are the two most prominent scholars in this process. Although their research objects are the same (both are attempts to understand and explain science), their disciplinary intentions differentiate. The historical approach of Sayılı is focused on the problem of the scientic progress. On the other hand, the philosophical (epistemological) approach of Hızır is focused on the problem of demarcation. To what extent do these two problems interact with each other? Should the relationship between these fields (history of science and the philosophy of science) be considered as an interdisciplinary partnership or as a multi-paradigm scientific study? If the latter is the case, association of Aydın Sayılı and Nusret Hızır should be considered to be the first institutionalized attempt at multiparadigmatic scientific studies at the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography of Ankara University and in Turkey as well.
