PERSULFATE ACTIVATION BY A NATURAL IRON OXIDE FOR THE REMEDIATION OF DYE CONTAMINATION
Journal Title: Journal of Water and Environmental Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 0
Abstract
The objective of this work was to evaluate the removal of crystal violet (CV), a cationic dye, using sodium persulfate (PS) as an oxidant in the presence of a natural iron oxide (NIO). Experimental results indicate that approximately 89 % and 98% of CV removal was achieved by PS alone and by (PS/NIO) system respectively after 1 hour of reaction. Persulfate oxidation activated with soluble Fe (II) enhanced the kinetic oxidation of CV. The increase in the removal extent is due to the adsorption of CV onto NIO surface and to the increased formation of either SO4•- or •OH radicals. The effect of pH on the degradation of CV by PS/NIO was studied. Persulfate degradation increases with a reduction in pH causing increased rate of degradation of organic contaminants. An additional factor in the NIO/PS/UV process is the photolysis of PS which produce two sulfate radicals (SO4•-). Results of this study suggest that NIO can be used as iron source to activate persulfate oxidation.

IMPACT D’UN AGENT COMPLEXANT DU FER DANS LE PROCEDE DE PHOTO-FENTON SUR LA DEGRADATION DU 3-METHYLPHENOL EN PHASE HOMOGENE / IMPACT OF IRON COMPLEXING AGENT IN THE PROCESS OF PHOTO-FENTON ON THE DEGRADATION OF 3-METHYLPHENOL IN HOMOGENEOUS PHASE
In this study we used 3-methylphenol (3MP) as a pollutant model of phenols to study the effectiveness of the photo-Fenton Fe(III)Ox system. The preliminary study of the mixture 3MP-Fe(III)Ox-H2O2 in the absence of light...
LES RISQUES LIES AUX MAZUKU DANS LA REGION DE GOMA, REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO (RIFT EST-AFRICAIN) / RISKS ASSOCIATE WITH MAZUKU IN THE GOMA AREA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO (EAST AFRICA RIFT)
In the area north of Lake Kivu, in the western part of the African Rift, deep fractures allow the uptake of gas, especially carbon dioxide, into areas locally called mazuku; in Kiswahili places where a diabolical gas kil...
