PHARMACOGNOSTIC EVALUATION AND PRELIMINARY PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING ON THE LEAVES OF XIMENIA AMERICANA LINN.
Journal Title: International Research Journal of Pharmacy (IRJP) - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
The Present communication deals with the various pharmacognostic evaluation on the leaves of Ximenia americana include morphological, microscopical characters, powder microscopy and physicochemical characters like ash values and loss on drying, TLC studies etc.The preliminary phytochemical screening is also carried out and it is revealed that, the presence of Alkaloids, Sterpoids, Sugars, Saponins,Tannins, and Terpenoides in methanol extract. Steroids in traces and absence of Terpenoides in ethanol and aqueous extract of the leaves of X.americana which may be responsible for its antinociceptive activity.
