Photocatalytic Removal of organic pollutants in Silk Industrial Effluents by ZnO Deposited CASB Supported Composite
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in the silk industrial effluent was investigated using ZnO deposited calcium alumino silicate ceramic beads (CASB). For the first time, preparation of ZnO deposited supported photocatalytic composites were carried out under mild hydrothermal conditions. During the preparation of supported photocatalytic composite the hydrothermal temperature was fixed at 200 OC for 24 h experimental duration with alkaline condition using General Purposeās Autoclave. As prepared supported photocatalytic composite indicated higher photocatalytic activities under different light sources. Influence of experimental conditions like catalyst load, concentration of organic substrate, pH of the medium, temperature, different intensity and irradiation time on photocatalytic degradation efficiency was studied. It was found that photodegradation efficiency of organic pollutants in silk industrial effluent using ZnO deposited supported photocatalytic composites was considerably high. Easy recovery of photocatalyst from the effluent after completion of photodegradation reaction is the major advantages of hydrothermally prepared supported photocatalytic composite.
