Photoelastic Analysis of the Vertebral Fixation System Using Different Screws
Journal Title: Engineering, Technology & Applied Science Research - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare using photoelasticity, the internal stresses produced by two types of pedicular screws (Synthes™) with three different diameters, when submitted to different pullout strengths. The fringe orders were evaluated around the screws using the Tardy compensation method. In all the models analyzed, the shear stress was calculated. Results showed that, independently of the applied load, the screw of smaller outer diameter had larger values of shear stress. According to the analysis realized, we observed that the place of highest stress was in the last thread, close to the head of the screws.

Dynamic Power System Security Analysis Using a Hybrid PSO-APO Algorithm
In this paper, a novel hybrid particle swarm optimization and artificial physics optimization (HPSO-APO) algorithm is proposed to solve the dynamic security constrained optimal power flow (DSCOPF) problem for enhancing s...
The Impact of Capability Maturity Model Integration on Return on Investment in IT Industry: An Exploratory Case Study
Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a framework known for improving the quality of processes on consistent basis. This paper makes an attempt to explore, analyze and describe the impact of CMMI in terms of re...
Design of a 2-DOF Control and Disturbance Estimator for a Magnetic Levitation System
This work proposes a systematic two-degree freedom control scheme to improve the reference input tracking and load disturbance rejection for an unstable magnetic levitation system. The proposed control strategy is a two-...
The Effect of Confluence Angle on the Flow Pattern at a Rectangular Open-Channel
Flow connection in channels is a phenomenon which frequently happens in rivers, water and drainage channels and urban sewage systems. The phenomenon appears to be more complex in rivers than in channels, especially at th...
Optimal Placement and Sizing of Fault Current Limiters in Distributed Generation Systems Using a Hybrid Genetic Algorithm
Distributed Generation (DG) connection in a power system tends to increase the short circuit level in the entire system which, in turn, could eliminate the protection coordination between the existing relays. Fault Curre...
