Journal Title: Вісник Одеського національного університету. Філологія: літературознавство, мовознавство - Year 2014, Vol 19, Issue 1
Abstract
The article studies the meaning of the «mirror» concept in plays by Mykola Kylish as the foundation stone of implications in the play ‘Myna Mazaylo’ and playwright’s creative discoveries in the domain of poetics. For this reason the multipurpose character and artistic persuasiveness of the «mirror» concept have been studied. «Mirror» turns out to be an irreplaceable artistic device in the world of mirror, i.e. fake and dependant, characters of the philosophic play ‘Myna Mazaylo’. The analysis proves that reism (from Latin res – thing) performs a number of functions. First of all, it helps to reach the depth of the characters’ inner world. Secondly, it aids in constructing existential essence of characters’ behavior, their self-consciousness and perception of the world. Thus, the mirror appears to be alter ego of each character and a metaphoric examiner which checks if the Masaylos’ national identity life-long.
