Polish Experience in Research of Organisation and Management in a Historical Perspective

Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Management - Year 2010, Vol 9, Issue 3

Abstract

There has been an increasing interest in the so called humanistic approach among the academia. Also the adaptation of the historical perspective in the analysis of the issues related to the organization and management has become more and more popular. It is worth to underline that Polish scientists have conducted research concentrated on exploring the history of a single organisation. This can be seen as remarkable starting point for a new movement in the management science, that is, business history. The main purpose of the article is to present achievements of Polish science in this new field of knowledge. The intention of the contribution is to draw the attention of the management professionals to the fact that Polish literature in this area is wide-ranging, though unknown. The majority of research in this domain is undertaken by economic historians that usually work on the frontier of history and economy. In addition, the paper analyses case studies of adapting historical perspective in the operation of current economic entities. The article emphasises the following research areas within the framework of organisation and management science where the historical perspective was adopted: 1. The adaptation of history-related concepts and theoretical methods in research on organisations, 2. The investigation of phenomena and processes related to conducting research on organisations in the historical dimension, 3. The investigation that results in articles analysing organisational thought and/or management practices and contributions concentrated on selected organisations.
