Polish Socialism – Imagination and Reality. Reflections on Jan Strzelecki’s Concept

Abstract
The article is a short presentation of the most important elements of the vision of socialism by Jan Strzelecki (1919-1988) – a Polish sociologist and activist of the socialist movement whose scientific and journalistic texts and political activity constitute an important part of the intellectual history of the Polish political thought after the Second World War. One of his most important concepts was “socialist humanism” announced for the first time in 1946 in the program brochure of the Independent Socialist Youth Union. In this text he presented the philosophical and political problems related to the reconstruction of Poland’s social life after the occupation and in the threat of automatic replication the Soviet model of socialism. Strzelecki remained faithful to this ideas until his tragic death 30 years ago, on the verge of the political transformation which he actively prepared supporting the Solidarity revolution of 1980-1981.
