POLITICAL AND LEGAL MENTALITY UKRAINIANS: CONCEPTUAL AND METODOLOGICAL BASES OF RESEARCH

Abstract
The article reviews the main conceptual and methodological approaches in the study of national mentality, particularly Ukrainian mentality. It focuses on the political and legal aspects of Ukrainian mentality. It is noted that the most promising for a full study of the characteristics of the Ukrainian mentality is a historical-legal concept. It represents a system of beliefs and a single defining research plan, which should reveal the development of political mentality of the Ukrainians through retrospection major milestones of political and legal history of the Ukrainian people Ethnogenesis times to the present. Conceptual bases of research mentality phenomenon associated with many areas of the western civilization. Among them: the direction of social psychology, based on sociological theory E. Durkheim; direction of psychology, theory of archetypes as the basis for «collective unconscious» C. Jung; direction of the British and French anthropology, the problem of so-called «primitive mentality» in the works B. Malynovskiy, A. Lerua-Gourhan, L. LevyBruhl; direction of American cultural anthropology «Culture and personality», where we study the processes of formation of the human person, his behavior, norms, forms of deviations and their correction, restoration of culture, created the basic theory and modal personality D. T. Campbell; «The new historical science» (new social history), in which the concept of «mentality» integrates issues of behavior, ways and forms of thinking, concrete and imaginative pictures of the world that are born in the minds of the people of the Middle Ages, the authors – French historians School «Annals» M. Blok and L. Fevr. To study the category «mentality» have used innovative scientific approaches: as a general scientific and special methods used in political and legal sciences. To identify the dynamics, formation and development of political and legal mentality usually used dialectical method. Logical-historical method used in the study of the historical evolution of political and legal mentality of Ukrainian society. Through systematic method is being reviewed by the nature and content of the structural components of the political and legal mentality of Ukrainian society and determine its specific features. Use of factor analysis will classify legal, mental and psychological factors and functions, political and legal mentality reveal its impact on the modification and modernization of the political and socio-cultural system of Ukrainian society
