Polymorphism and structure of exon 2 of caprine melatonin receptor 1b gene and its relations to fertility and seasonal estrus
Journal Title: Animal Science Papers and Reports - Year 2012, Vol 30, Issue 2
Abstract
The first description is presented of nucleotide sequence of exon 2 of caprine melatonin receptor 1b (MT2). No polymorphisms of MT2 gene were detected between high fertility and year-round estrous goat breeds and low fertility and seasonal estrous goat breeds. It is likely that exon 2 of MT2 gene is not associated with fertility or reproductive seasonality in goat breeds. The nucleotide sequence of exon 2 of MT2 gene of Jining Grey goats shows much closer phylogenetic relation to the MT2 of sheep (97%) and cattle (94%) than to that of pig (84%), human (80%) and mouse (74%). A rather high nucleotide identity (62-64%) with the melatonin receptor 1a (MT1) of goat, sheep, human and mouse was also found. The caprine MT2 contains the same NAXXY motif in transmembrane 7 as the other melatonin receptors. Both DRY and CYVCR motifs were detected just downstream from its third transmembrane domain (the same as in sheep and cattle) rather than NRY and CYICH found in other melatonin receptor groups.

Impact of LEP and LEPR gene polymorphisms on functional traits in Polish Holstein-Friesian cattle
Five single nucleotide polymorphisms in leptin and leptin receptor genes were analysed for their possible impact on estimating breeding values for somatic cell count score (SCS) in milk, longevity and reproductive traits...
Genetic relationships among calving ease, birth weight and perinatal calf survival in Charolais cattle
Perinatal calf mortality affects profitability of beef cattle production systems, hence, it would eventually be beneficial to include this trait in a breeding goal. The objectives of this study were to estimate the envir...
Effect of dietary selenium and vitamin E on chemical and fatty acid composition of goose meat and liver
The effect of dietary supplementation with organic selenium and vitamin E on chemical characteristics and fatty acid composition of goose meat (breast and leg muscles) and liver is described. Two-hundred one-day-old Whit...
Polymorphism in troponin T gene (TNNT3) and its effect on gene expression level and production traits in pigs of selected breeds
The aim of the study was to investigate the T2 fragment of TNNT3 gene, identify its polymorphism and evaluate the elation between that polymorphism and TNNT3 expression level and production traits in most common pig bre...
Breed differences in behaviour-related characteristics of stallions evaluated in performance tests
Present study was aimed at testing the possible breed differences in behaviour-related traits evaluated in performance tests of stallions. The results as regards the traits labelled “character”, “temperamen...
