Polymorphism in exon 2 of INHBB gene and its relationship with litter size in Jining Grey goats
Journal Title: Animal Science Papers and Reports - Year 2012, Vol 30, Issue 1
Abstract
The inhibin βB(INHBB) gene was studied as a candidate gene for the prolificacy of Jining Grey goats. According to the sequence of bovine INHBB gene, two pairs of primers were designed to detect single nucleotide polymorphism in exon 2 of INHBB gene in high-prolificacy (Jining Grey) and low-prolificacy (Inner Mongolia Cashmere and Angora) goats by polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism method. Only the amplified products of primer P2 showed polymorphism. Three genotypes (AA, AB and BB) were identified in Jining Grey and two (AB and BB) in Inner Mongolia Cashmere and Angora goats. Sequencing revealed one single nucleotide mutation (A→G) at base 782 of exon 2 of INHBB gene in BB genotype compared to genotype AA. In Jining Grey goats the frequencies of A and B alleles were 0.318 and 0.682 while of AA, AB and BB genotypes reached 0.068, 0.500 and 0.432, respectively. The Jining Grey goats remained in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (chi-square = 3.36, P = 0.1861). These of genotype AA delivered by 0.73 (P<0.05) or 0.84 (P<0.05) kids more than those with genotype AB or BB, while does of genotype AB by 0.11 (P>0.05) kids more than did does of genotype BB.

Cytogenetic, histological, hormonal and semen studies in male goats with developed udders
Cytogenetic, hormonal, histological and semen quality examinations were performed in two unrelated male goats with developed udders (gynaecomastia). The bucks were neither stimulated for lactation nor milked. The progres...
Can satisfaction of the rider be predicted from a behavioural test of horses
It may be assumed that the satisfaction from horse riding ultimately results in positive feelings for the mount and stimulates motivation for supplying high standards of welfare to the horse. The aim of the present study...
Genetic relationships among calving ease, birth weight and perinatal calf survival in Charolais cattle
Perinatal calf mortality affects profitability of beef cattle production systems, hence, it would eventually be beneficial to include this trait in a breeding goal. The objectives of this study were to estimate the envir...
The effect of amaranth seed added to the standard diet upon selected meat quality traits in the quail
The study was conducted on 36 female Pharaoh quails (3 groups, 12 birds per group). The experiment covered the 7th to the 20th weeks of birds’ lives. The control group (I) received standard feed formulated for adult quai...
Differential gene expression of bovine intramuscular and subcutaneous preadipocytes during differentiation
The study suggests that Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) may play an important role in the development of bovine adipose tissue in vivo. To investigate the differential mRNA expression between bovine intramuscular (IM) preadipocytes (B...
