Power electronics devices in power distribution systems

Abstract
The article presents the role and the place of power electronics systems in modern distribution systems. The concept of smart grids is explained along with a summary describing their features, possibilities and drawbacks. The paper shows the results of research on the dynamic reactive power compensation with a STATCOM for wind farm. The article presents types of power converters. Presented features of the power electronic devices allow to assume that in the future these devices will become standard equipment for the power system users.
