PREDICTION OF THE FATTENING PERFORMANCE OF YOUNG SLAUGHTER CATTLE BASED ON SELECTED LIVE ANIMAL MEASUREMENTS
Journal Title: Acta Scientiarum Polonorum Zootechnica - Year 2015, Vol 14, Issue 3
Abstract
The objective of the study was to determine the possibility for early prediction of the fattening ability of young crossbred beef bulls using multiple regression equations developed on the basis of selected live animal measurements. The experimental material comprised 96 young crossbred beef bulls being the offspring of Polish Holstein-Friesian (HF) cows and beef bulls (Limousin, Hereford and Charolaise). At the age of 6 months, at the introduction of the animals into semi-intensive fattening system lasting for 12 months, live animal measurements were performed. Using a stepwise regression method, prediction equations were derived: average daily gain (ADG), dry matter conversion, crude protein conversion, net energy conversion per 1 kg body weight gain. The highest predictive values are provided by the equation estimating ADG. The application thereof in practice allows the acceptably accurate estimation, at the age of 6 months, of the rate of body weight gains of young bulls fattened semi-intensively until the 540th day of age, and the selection of calves for fattening on this basis.

SHARE OF SELECTED PROTEIN FRACTIONS IN THE MILK OF POLISH HOLSTEIN-FRIESIAN COWS DEPENDING ON AGE, PERFORMANCE AND STAGE OF LACTATION
Milk is composed of more than 400 fatty acids, approximately 100 proteins and peptides, lactose, vitamins and minerals. These components have a high bioavailability and health-promoting properties to humans. They also in...
ASSESSMENT OF REPRODUCTION PERFORMANCE INDICES OF MARES BRED IN THE ROZTOCZE NATIONAL PARK DURING 1982–2016
The research objective was characterization and assessment of the reproduction parameters of the mares from the Polish Konik horses nature reserve in the Roztocze National Park (RNP) during the years 1982-2016. A total o...
FATTY ACID BINDING PROTEIN 4 (FABP4) AND THYREOGLOBULIN (TG) POLYMORPHISMS IN RELATION TO MILK PERFORMANCE TRAITS IN THE HOLSTEIN-FRIESIAN CATTLE
Cows of the Polish Holstein-Friesian black-white variety were tested to identify c.328G>A polymorphism in the FABP4 gene and g.422C>T polymorphism in the TG gene. Three different genotypes (GG, GA and GG) were identified...
Selenium in the diet of ruminants
The results of the research show that there is a deficiency in Se in the environment in most regions. It is crucial to supplement selenium deficiency in ruminants from deficient regions as long-lasting lack of this eleme...
EFFECT OF CHICKEN BREED AND STORAGE CONDITIONS OF EGGS ON THEIR QUALITY
The aim of the study was to assess the quality of eggs stored in different conditions for 28 days after oviposition. The eggs were produced by two breeds of hens covered by the gene-pool protection programme, and by comm...
