Preparation and Rapid Analysis of Oxygen-Nitric Acid Combined Oxidation of Glyoxylic Acid

Abstract
Glyoxylic acid was prepared by selective oxidation of glyoxal with nitric acid and oxygen. Using single factor experiments, the effects of the oxygen delivery rate, reaction temperature, and nitric acid consumption on the conversion of glyoxal and the yield of glyoxylic acid were investigated by high performance liquid chromatography. The results show that the optimal reaction conditions for the glyoxylic acid are oxygen delivery rate of 50 m L/min, reaction temperature of 60 ℃, and nitric acid to glyoxal ratio of 0. 59. Under these conditions, the conversion of glyoxal is 99. 00% and the yield of glyoxylic acid is 84. 00%. Compared with the traditional nitric acid oxidation process, the amount of nitric acid is reduced by nearly 10%, and the yield of glyoxylic acid is increased by more than 5%.
