PRESENT AND FUTURE DIMENSIONS OF THE EUROPEAN NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICY

Abstract
Regions with a strategic importance, such as the Middle East, the South Caucasus, and Central Asia are supported by EU inthe field of security and development. To these regions another one was added, the Black Sea one. This happened also because Romania has become an UE member on January 1, 2007. The European Council has dedicated a special chapter to the Black Sea region in its strategy for Central Asia. The active presence of the EU in these regions, especially in the first semestre of 2004, when the Union's presidency belonged to Germany, reveals a development of the role of the Organization in establishing, developping and offering a better security to these strategic regions.
