Preserving history. “Calcariul de la Răpidea” 3d virtual tour (Iași, Romania)
Journal Title: Analele stiintifice ale Universitatii "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" din Iasi - seria Geologie - Year 2015, Vol 61, Issue 1
Abstract
Considered to be the first Romanian geological scientific paper, “Calcariul de la Răpidea” describes an outcrop from an area that later became the first geological reserve. Geologically, the area belongs to the Moldavian Platform corresponding to Besarabian age (middle Sarmatian) and it is a reserve since 1955. During this span of time, the Repedea reserve has passed through many administrative changes. It was enlarged from 0.019 km2 to 0.058 km2 as a strict preservation area and received an additional transition afforested area of 0.385 km2. Today, the transition area is deforested by locals and the strict protection area is in constant destruction due to garbage disposal and stone extraction. In this paper we propose a new approach regarding the reserve preservation and protection by creating a 3D immersive interactive virtual tour of the area with the help of “Structure form Motion” Photogrammetry, 3D modelling and game industry tools. By providing this 3D virtual tour freely over the internet we hope to raise the awareness among general public and organizations.

The distribution of the major elements in the stream sediments from the Jijia River basin
The aims of the present study are to assess the normal variation limits of nine major chemical elements from the stream sediments of the Jijia river basin, as well as to explain the presence of any anomalous values. Stat...
Presence of the genus Choerolophodon (Proboscidea: Mammalia) within the Moldavian Platform framework (Eastern Carpathians Foreland, Romania)
The reassignment of a mandible fragment bearing an m3 and also a left upper tusk previously described as “Mastodon (Tetralophodon) grandicissivum” to Choerolophodon cf. anatolicus is the leading goal of the paper. The re...
Pressure anomalies on the Totea-Vladimir structure (Getic Depression)
The Totea-Vladimir structure belongs to the Getic Depression, which was formed at the beginning of the Lower Miocene in the South Carpathians foredeep. In terms of hydrocarbon accumulations, the Sarmatian and Burdigalian...
Geochemical and hydrodynamic control of trace element transport in a reservoir: impact of interflow layer
Concentration of trace elements both in the water column (dissolved phase and acid-soluble suspended particles) and in sediments (bulk and acid-soluble particles) was followed for one year in a water reservoir (the Bic...
Zinc in the flotation tailings pond of Brăteasa Valley (Suceava County, Romania)
The tailings pond located in Brăteasa Valley, near the former ore-processing plant of Tarnița, shows a particular shape of the beach, given the tailings stockpiles deposited on its northwestern sector. This geometry prod...
