Abstract
Introduction: Among characteristic factors in tendency towards abusing drugs, we can mention personality traits and mental disorders. In various surveys, the issue of mental disorder has always existed and considered in multiple studies. The aim of this study is to investigate the prevalence of psychological disorders among patients dependent on drugs visiting Taleghani Hospital in Ilam in 2014. Materials and Methods: In this study, 120 addicts were selected among patients visiting Taleghani Hospital in Ilam. After handing out SCL90 questionnaires, they were collected and used for analyzing the hypotheses of the study. Cronbach's alpha was calculated which was 0.843, proving the reliability of the mental disorders questionnaire. Results: Pearson’s correlation test results and Chi-Square results show that there is a relationship between mental disorders and living place, marital status, aggressiveness, agitation, obsession, personal sensitiveness, physical complications, psychosis, paranoid tendencies, depression and phobia. However, there is no relationship between mental disorder emergence and education level, economic condition, and the duration of drug abuse. Mental disorders were not different among men, women and the kind of drugs used. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained from this study, developing a health program including drug therapy, group therapy, and/or establishing health care centers in rehabilitation centers can be effective in helping the addicts become drug-free.
