PRIFORMIS SYNDROME

Journal Title: Journal of Turkish Spinal Surgery - Year 2011, Vol 22, Issue 3

Abstract

Basically, priformis syndrome appears from tightening of sciatica nerve under the priformis muscle and generally interferes with lumbar disc. Historically, it is thoughtful that repetitive gluteal muscle injections have an important place in development of the disease. Actually, anatomic variations of priformis, fibrosis and contractures of muscles, and some extrinsic factors cause to disease. In patients with sciatica (pain disperses to the gluteus) it must be suggested. The pain developed by stiff external rotation of femur is a simple method used in differential diagnosis. Nerve blockage with accompaniment CT has a high success. In resistant patients tenolysis of the muscle from trochanter, where it adheres to, is performed.
