Primary Hyperparathyroidism: Etiology, Pathogenesis, Clinical Picture, Diagnosis, Treatment, Quality of Life (Review of Literature)

Abstract

The author provide a literature review of the data for the last 10–15 years on the problem of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). PHPT was first described in 1943, but interest to the diseases of the parathyroid glands grown in 60–70s of XX century, when it was discovered the hormonal system regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism. Works of domestic and foreign scientists deal with different aspects of PHPT. However, to date in all countries reported incidence of PHPT is not corresponding to the true one that is associated with the polymorphism of clinical symptoms of the disease. Lack of adequate treatment leads to complications of the process, to disability of patients. There are several reasons for the underdiagnosis: ignorance of doctors and the population about the variability of PHPT semiotics; clinical simulation of the disease: nephrolithiasis, cholelithiasis, gastric or duodenal ulcers, osteoporosis, etc.; defects of screening for this pathology.
