PROBLEMS OF LAND USE CHANGES AND THE PROTECTION OF WATER-BEARING AREAS ACCOUNTING FOR THE IMPORTANT SOURCE OF DRINKING WATER SUPPLY BASED ON THE STUDY OF MOSINA–KRAJKOWO WATERWORKS

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2011, Vol 445, Issue 445

Abstract

This article presents hazards to Mosina-Krajkowo waterworks, the main source of drinking water supply for Poznan city, resulting from land use changes in water-bearing areas. The changes consist in different forms of recreational development accepted by local authorities (e.g. construction of a golf course in the immediate vicinity of the wellfield), expansion of built-up areas and roads. These activities (carried out and planned) create risk to groundwater quality. They result in improper investments on land targeted as development area for the waterworks. This concerns particularly flood plain of the Warta River. Detrimental activities occur despite the fact that discussed areas are under protection forming: Rogalinski Scenic Park and areas of Nature 2000.
