PROBLEMS OF MODERN ONOMASTIC TERMINOLOGY

Abstract
The article is dedicated to the analysis of the Ukrainian onomastic terminology present state. The aim of this article is to elucidate some terminological difficulties and discrepancies. The object of investigation is onomastic terminology, the subject is the study of terminological dublets. The problems of standardization, normalization and harmonization of onomastic terms are outlined. The main tendencies to the coining of terms in the sphere of onomastics are defined, Eastern and Western. The former makes use of specific terms, coined for all classes of proper names, while the latter deals with descriptive terms that are self-explanatory. The means of combination of two leading tendencies are suggested: at least two levels of term specification should be introduced. These levels are to be based on hyper-hyponymic relations, the higher level of specification embracing more general terms, the lower one – hyponymic terms of a more specific character.
