Problemy zdrowotne chorych na chorobę Huntingtona i ich wpływ na codzienne funkcjonowanie chorego

Abstract
Choroba Huntingtona to dziedziczona autosomalnie dominująco choroba neurozwyrodnieniowa charakteryzująca się występowaniem postępujących objawów ruchowych, poznawczych i psychiatrycznych. Choroba Huntingtona jest schorzeniem powodującym degradację w sferze fizycznej, psychologicznej oraz socjalnej pacjenta. W zależności od tego, na jakim etapie choroby znajduje się pacjent, przedklinicznym czy klinicznym, występują u niego mniej lub bardziej nasilone problemy zdrowotne. Postępujące objawy ruchowe uniemożliwiają samodzielne funkcjonowanie, natomiast depresja, zaburzenia psychiatryczne i funkcji poznawczych są powodem izolacji oraz unikania kontaktów z otoczeniem. Obecnie nie istnieje skuteczne leczenie tej choroby, a leki stosowane w terapii mają wiele działań niepożądanych. Prowadzi ona do postępującej niesprawności, zależności chorego od osób sprawujących nad nim opiekę oraz w konsekwencji do śmierci.
