PROPERTIES OF DUPLEX LAYERS PRODUCED IN THE VACUUM TITANIZING PROCESS ON TOOL STEEL COVERED WITH NICKEL ALLOY
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2011, Vol 238, Issue 4
Abstract
The paper presents the results of examinations of the structure and properties of duplex layers of the TiC+(Ni-Mo) type, produced in the vacuum titanizing process on tool steel covered with Ni-Mo electrolytic alloy. A comparison of the TiC+(Ni-Mo) type duplex layers with the TiC type single carbide layers, produced on steel surface in the vacuum titanizing process, was performed. Investigations of layers morphology, their phase composition, depth profiles and hardness, were conducted. Tribological properties (linear wear) of the layers were performed by means of taper-three- -roll test. The investigation proved that the wear resistance by friction of the TiC+(Ni-Mo) type duplex layers, produced by means vacuum titanizing of tool steel covered with Ni-Mo alloy electrolytic coating, is just as good as single carbide layers of the TiC type; however, tribological properties of the hardened steel samples without any layers were not good.
