Prospective Study to Evaluate the Ponseti Technique in the Management of Idiopathic Clubfoot
Journal Title: Journal of Orthopaedic Education - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Introduction: The 20th century was marked by the classification of two concepts in the management of clubfoot. The first is the general acceptance of the principles of manipulation, strapping and serial correction plaster casts and the other favours numerous surgical procedures for the correction of clubfoot. Methodology: Detailed personal history was recorded including the age, sex, father’s & mother’s name, address, date of first reporting, age of reporting, detailed history of previous treatment, etc. A thorough general & local examination was carried out & the deformity was scored according to Pirani’ s classification at each visit before applying cast. The score was plotted against the time and the trend of score was noted with reference to effect of manipulations or other interventions on deformity. Manipulations were done by Ponseti’s method followed by corrective casts at weekly interval without anaesthesia. Results: The number of cast application required to achieve full clinical correction were 4.7 (average) in patients whose initial Pirani scores were 3 while in patients with initial Pirani scores 6, number of cast required to obtain full clinical correction increased to 8 (average). Conclusion: Ponseti Method is an excellent conservative method for treatment of Congenital TalipesEquinoVarus.

Functional Outcome of Locking Compression Plate in Supracondylar Fracture of Distal Femur
Background: Utilization of LCP system in supracondylar fractures of distal femur couples the advantage of conventional plate osteosynthesis together with internal fixator systems. LCP involves use of compression plating...
Management of Compound Fracture Tibia
Tibial fractures are common due to high energy injuries. The principles of treatment include the respect of the soft tissues and reduction of fracture fragments. There are various surgical fixation methods that can achie...
Functional Outcome of Prone and Direct Posterior Approach for Management of Posterior Column Tibial Plateau Fracture
Introduction: Due to its special location, it is difficult to perform open reduction and internal fixation, if early effective treatment is not provided for patients, chronic collapse often occurs, which leads to signifi...
Functional Outcome of Surgically Treated Displaced Middle Third Clavicle Shaft Fracture
Introduction: About 70% of clavicle fractures are in middle third shaft. Traditionally these fractures are treated non-operatively. By closed method it is practically impossible to maintain anatomical reduction and hence...
