Prosthetic rehabilitation of patient with occlusion disorders. A case report

Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2017, Vol 67, Issue 3

Abstract

Prosthetic rehabilitation of the chewing organs mainly involves the treatment of occlusive disorders and dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system, as well as the improvement in facial aesthetics. The pathogenesis of disorders is multifactorial. The main causes of disoders comprise abnormalities in the reciprocal occlusion contacts of opposing teeth interfering proper maxilla position relative to the mandible. This article presents the prosthetic treatment process in a 42-year-old patient. Based on the research, the analysis of diagnostic models and extra images, a two-stage treatment was planned. In stage I removable dentures were made in the structural bite. After complete adaptation to new occlusion conditions stage II was started. In the dental laboratory a waxup bridge was constructed in the anterolaterally section of the upper arch and silicon index. On this basis a temporary restoration was made by direct method in the mouth. After the patient’s adaptation period, long-term restorations were made. In the final stage, the upper and lower framework dentures were produced. The patient was provided with oral hygiene indtructions and information about the need for follow-up visits. Due to good communication with the patient interdisciplinary cooperation between doctors, prosthetic reconstruction of the chewing organ was possibile. It restored a good occlusion and vertical dimension. A satisfactory aesthetic effect was obtained and the chewing and speech function improved, which also positively affected the well-being of the patient.
