Protection Effect of Different Fractions of Root of Lawsonia inermis on 2-Deoxyribose by Hydroxyl (.OH) Radical Assay
Journal Title: Journal of Advances in Medicine and Medical Research - Year 2016, Vol 17, Issue 6
Abstract
Aim: In vitro protective effect of different fractions of root of Lawsonia inermis (LI) on 2-deoxy ribose, sugar of the DNA were carried out in this study. Methods: Protective activity of different fractions of LI namely ethyle acetate (LIEAC), alcoholic (LIALC), petroleum ether (LIPET), buthanol (LIBUT) and aqueous (LIAQ) with different concentration were evaluated on 2-Deoxyribose (sugar moiety of the DNA) against hydroxyl radical as clastogen. Results: Protection of deoxyribose of DNA against hydroxyl radical induced damage was observed in all the fractions of LI, but LIEAC showed more protective activity. Conclusion: Protective activity of different fractions was due to anti-oxidant property which is directly related to total phenolic and flavonoid content but still further investigation required to claim the protective activity of these fractions.
