Protective effect of sivelestat sodium on postoperative respiratory function in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting under cardiopulmonary bypass: a single-center retrospective cohort study

Abstract

Objective To retrospectively analyze the effect of sivelestat sodium on perioperative pulmonary function protection and clinical prognosis in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting under cardiopulmonary bypass (onpump CABG). Methods This study retrospectively included 208 patients who underwent elective on-pump CABG from January to December 2021 in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of Xijing Hospital, of which 98 were in the control group and 110 in the sivelestat sodium group. The PaO2 / FiO2 within 24 h after operation was the main outcome index, and the postoperative mechanical ventilation time and the overall incidence of adverse events were the composite secondary outcome indexes. Results There were 187 males and 21 females in this study, with an average age of 57. 2 ± 9. 3 years, and the in-hospital mortality rate was 1. 9% . Compared with the control group, the PaO2 / FiO2 of patients in the sivelestat sodium group was significantly higher than that in the control group at all time points within 24 h after operation ( all P < 0. 05), the number of patients with postoperative mechanical ventilation time > 24 h was significantly less than that in the control group (14. 5% vs 26. 5% , P = 0. 03), and the overall incidence of adverse events was significantly reduced (56. 4% vs 70. 4% , P = 0. 04). Conclusion Perioperative use of sivelestat sodium can improve postoperative pulmonary function and reduce the incidence of postoperative adverse events in patients undergoing on-pump CABG.
