Proximal femoral fixation nail in proximal femoral fractures- study on biomechanical forces causing implant failure
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Orthopaedics Surgery - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Objective: Purpose of this study is to evaluate biomechanical factors working around hip which leads to implant failure. Knowledge of these biomechanical forces may help in some modification in implant design or developing new operative techniques[ to avoid damage or to strengthen protecting forces working on implant] and it may also help in developing some new postop splint support for patient benefit. Material and Methods: This is a prospective cum retrospective study. All 11 cases with proximal femoral fracture[ # I/T & S/T included] fixed with PFN. Conclusion: To prevent implant failure biomechanical force-vectors has to be compensated by forces generated in opposite direction either by body itself or biomechanical properties of implant either due to its specific design or due to properties of material which is used. If not compensated implant failure may occure.

Evaluation of results of fracture Proximal Humerus treated with Kirschner Wire and mini external fixation
Fracture of Proximal humerus are most common humerus fracture (45%). These are more common than hip fracture. As the patient has a direct fall on the limb these fractures are mostly undisplaced (85%). These are more comm...
Management of distal tibial metaphyseal fractures by expert tibial nail
Introduction: Distal tibial metaphyseal fractures causes extensive musculoskeletal damage and needs an accurate fixation with minimal soft tissue damage. The optimal method of fixation remains debatable. Open reduction a...
Long term outcome and ideal screw placement in Bristow procedure for anterior glenohumeral instability
Introduction: The glenohumeral joint being the most mobile joint is highly susceptible to dislocations. Majority of recurrences occur within 2 years of first traumatic dislocation. Surgical stabilisation is indicated whe...
To compare outcomes in patients with diaphyseal fracture of tibia managed by intramedullary nailing with intact fibula vs fracture tibia with fibula
ntroduction: Fractures of the tibia and fibula are relatively common and have been recognized as serious and debilitating injuries for centuries. The primary aim of the study was to compare outcomes in patient with a dia...
