Psychology of creativity as a source of inspirations for psychotherapists

Journal Title: Psychoterapia - Year 2012, Vol 161, Issue 2

Abstract

The paper is an attempt to look at psychotherapy from the perspective of „psychology of creativity”. The authors present various aspects of the creative process of psychotherapy using heuristic rules defined by Edward Nęcka. The process of therapy, relation with the patient and cooperation within the therapeutic team are referred to the work of „creative teams”. This allows one to see the possibilities hidden in differences of opinion and perspectives. Creativity is regarded as flexibility of thinking, ability to reformulate difficulties into resources, to undermine assumptions and to create new valuable solutions. Heuristic rules appear to be commonly, though secretly, used in psychotherapy. Their exposure permits one to use them consciously and more effectively.
