Journal Title: Acta Scientarum Polonorum Administratio Locorum - Year 2019, Vol 18, Issue 2
Abstract
The purpose of the article is to discuss issues of public spaces in relation to the seven principles of universal design created in the Center for Universal Design at North Carolina State University. Those principles are recognized as a worldwide standard for accessibility. Subjects of the analysis are located in central as well as suburban parts of Wroclaw, Poland. All of them are recent modernizations, following the newest design trends. The main focus of the research is quality and functionality of those spaces. Authors verify if spaces can be in fact called universal, or rather merely accessible. The difference between those concepts will be identified and emphasized. The purpose of the aspects explored, is raising awareness about the value universal design for modern society, standing in front of demographic changes. The thesis will be also confronted with relatively low interest of designers, developers and administrations.
