Pyoderma gangrenosum in a patient with aggravation of Crohn's disease

Journal Title: Polski Przegląd Otorynolaryngologiczny - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 3

Abstract

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is a rare ulcerative dermatosis. Aetiology of PG remains unknown. In 50–70% cases PG occurs in association with a systemic disease, most commonly inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis). First symptoms of PG may suggest diagnosis of bacterial infection of skin such as furuncle or phlegmon, so in early phase of PG frequent method of treatment is surgical intervention. Only a complete picture of disease and negative bacteriological culture provide appropriate diagnostic evaluations. We presented the case of PG (in the neck) which affected a 29- year-old woman during aggravation of Crohn's disease.
