QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF THE HIROMB WATER LEVEL FORECAST FOR THE POLISH COASTAL ZONE
Journal Title: Biuletyn Instytutu Morskiego - Year 2001, Vol 28, Issue 2
Abstract
the aim of this paper is to compare the observed water level and the results of HIROMB model for the same period. Real sea level values, collected in the data base of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management in Gdynia were measured by Polish water gauges situated along tlze west part of coast and around the Gulf of Gdansk. The analysed data were from the period 15.08.1998 - 28.05.1999, and the forecast lead time was equal to 24 hours. The assumed reference level, equal to 500 em, caused too high forecast levels and marked differences between observed and computed sea levels. In order to improve the results of modelling a new reference level has been established. Having introduced the new reference level, a better agreement between the observed and computed values was obtained in most cases. The validation of modelled results was carried out by means of the chosen statistical indicators.

DISCUSSION OF GRAIN-SIZE DISTRIBUTION OF FINE TAILINGS MATERIAL
Results of the grain size distribution of fine tailings material tested by means of falling drop and diffraction methods have been presented. The factors that influence the test results are discussed.
DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF SELF- SIMILARITY IN DATA TRAFFIC FOR PREDICTION OF PERFORMANCE OF MARINE DATA FILE TRANSFER
The time-sensitivity of large marine data files over a communication network necessitates accurate simulative prediction of the file transfer performance. Careful data traffic modelling is required to fit the actual traf...
RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PROPERTIES OF BOTTOM SURF ACE SEDIMENTS AND THE CONDITION OF PHYTO- AND ZOOBENTHOS OF THE PUCK BAY (1987-1999)
Basing on investigations of bottom suiface sediments of the outer Puck Bay (1995, 1999) and the inner Puck Bay (1987, 199 I, 1996), their condition and the absolute quality was determined in accordance with the adopted c...
ACTIVITIES RELATED TO HIROMB AND LOCAL MODEL DEVELOPMENT IN FINLAND
Coastal area fine resolution models have been developed to enhance the operational and ecosystem modelling in the Gulf of Finland. A user inteiface has been developed for both the transport and ecosystem models which bot...
BIOGENIC SUBSTANCES IN THE WATERS OF THE GULF OF GDANSK IN THE III DECADE OF JULY 1997, AFTER PASSAGE OF FLOOD WAVE
The paper discusses the distribution of salinity and of dissolved non-organic salts of nitrogen and phosphorus (nitrates, nitrites, ammonium, phos;hates) in the surface waters of the Gulf of Gdansk after the flood wave p...
