Question on Localization of Historically Known Sites of the Modern Period (from the Example of ‘Chalninsky Gorodok’)

Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 22

Abstract

Archaeological studies have allowed to localize the locations of historically studied sites in the territory of Naberezhnye Chelny — Chalninsky gorodok of the mid-17th century located on ‘Mysovaya Gora’, and other sites. According to the authors, domination of the natural-geographical factor in antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Modern period has determined the continuity in the selection of locations for original, particularly fortified, settlements by the population. The area of Mysovaya Gora is an important strategic point and a potential location for a small fortified outpost on the periphery of Volga Bolgaria. Similar areas of the terrain have preserved in the Golden Horde, Post-Golden Horde and Nogai periods.
