RAKTAMOKSHANA AND ITS PRACTICAL UTILITY IN NETRA ROGAS

Abstract
Eye diseases are rampant today because of the unhealthy surrounding, environmental factors and change in lifestyle. Medical science has limited number of drugs having only symptomatic relief, not the total cure. In Ayurveda, the treatment like Shodhanchikitsa (detoxification) destroys the complete pathophysiology of diseased condition. Raktamokshana (bloodletting) is one of the detoxification techniques of Panchkarma for the treatment of RaktajaVyadhi. Acharyas described the Raktamokshana in the management of various Netrarogas. Jaluokavachana(Leech Therapy) is one of the form of Raktamokshana, practiced since ancient times specially in Netrarogas, as Jaluoka is sheet (decongestion) in nature and madhur and pittahara. Thus to prove the efficacy and practical utility of Raktamokshana in eye diseases, review of all literature is must, as well as to spread the awareness about this therapy this study paper is designed.
