Abstract
Civil society is a necessary way of social existence of people, based on democratic freedoms and law. Its absence excludes the democratic order of political life and economic sphere. Civil society implies a model of society that focuses not on politics and the economy, but, first and foremost, on the society itself. It is maturing gradually as the country’s economic, political development, welfare, culture and self-consciousness of people, provided the society’s ability to self-organization based on religious and ethical norms that have a basis in deep layers of culture. Despite the ubiquity of the state and external forces influencing the development processes, civil society in Adjara has a significant weight in the decision-making process. It reacts actively to projects that are designed, on the one hand, to promote social and economic development in the region, and on the other, harm social, cultural or environmental processes.
