“REDUNDANCY” OF SEMANTIC ELEMENTS FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF SPEECH ECOLOGY

Abstract

The article considers the role of redundant semantic elements in the speech interaction of communicators. The concept of redundancy of semantic elements is considered by linguists from different positions. Language has redundancy because it cannot exist only in the presence of ideal external conditions. Redundancy is connected to the process of understanding. A speech utterance can influence not only the addressee but also the surrounding linguistic environment. In this context, it is possible to discuss the ecology of textual information from an activity-based perspective. The study concludes that the role of redundant speech messages is contradictory: they can contribute to “pollution” in the speech space but can also expand the semantic field of the entire communication, as they are an integral part of any natural language. The category of speech redundancy is used to denote the content of types and forms of communicative interaction. It involves variative or non-variative structural-semantic repetitions that internally enrich the communicative-pragmatic field. The study is based on speech utterances from literary works and everyday conversation. The methods employed include contextual inference and an interpretative approach to speech analysis.
